Surah 56
Surah Al-Waqiah
Surah Al-Waqiah (The Inevitable) is chapter 56 of the Holy Quran. It is a Meccan surah with 96 verses. Read the full surah below in Arabic with its translation.
بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ
- 56:8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ ٨
the people of the right, how ˹blessed˺ will they be
Download or share - 56:9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ ٩
the people of the left, how ˹miserable˺ will they be
Download or share - 56:10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ١٠
and the foremost ˹in faith˺ will be the foremost ˹in Paradise˺
Download or share - 56:17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌۭ مُّخَلَّدُونَ ١٧
They will be waited on by eternal youths

بِأَكْوَابٍۢ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍۢ مِّن مَّعِينٍۢ ١٨
with cups, pitchers, and a drink ˹of pure wine˺ from a flowing stream
Download or share - 56:19
لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنْهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ ١٩
that will cause them neither headache nor intoxication
Download or share - 56:20
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍۢ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ ٢٠
˹They will also be served˺ any fruit they choose

لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًۭا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا ٢٥
There they will never hear any idle or sinful talk—

وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ ٢٧
And the people of the right—how ˹blessed˺ will they be

إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءًۭ ٣٥
Indeed, We will have perfectly created their mates
Download or share - 56:41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ ٤١
And the people of the left—how ˹miserable˺ will they be

إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ ٤٥
Indeed, before this ˹torment˺ they were spoiled by luxury

وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٤٦
and persisted in the worst of sin

وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًۭا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ ٤٧
They used to ask ˹mockingly˺, “When we are dead and reduced to dust and bones, will we really be resurrected

قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ ٤٩
Say, ˹O Prophet,˺ “Most certainly, earlier and later generations

لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍۢ مَّعْلُومٍۢ ٥٠
will surely be gathered ˹together˺ for the appointed Day

ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ ٥١
Then you, O misguided deniers
Download or share - 56:52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍۢ مِّن زَقُّومٍۢ ٥٢
will certainly eat from ˹the fruit of˺ the trees of Zaqqûm
Download or share - 56:54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ ٥٤
Then on top of that you will drink boiling water—

هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ ٥٦
This will be their accommodation on the Day of Judgment
Download or share - 56:57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ ٥٧
It is We Who created you. Will you not then believe ˹in resurrection˺
Download or share - 56:59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ ٥٩
Is it you who create ˹a child out of˺ it, or is it We Who do so
Download or share - 56:60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ ٦٠
We have ordained death for ˹all of˺ you, and We cannot be prevented
Download or share - 56:61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ ٦١
from transforming and recreating you in forms unknown to you
Download or share - 56:62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ ٦٢
You already know how you were first created. Will you not then be mindful
Download or share - 56:64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ ٦٤
Is it you who cause it to grow, or is it We Who do so
Download or share - 56:65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًۭا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ ٦٥
If We willed, We could simply reduce this ˹harvest˺ to chaff, leaving you to lament
Download or share - 56:68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ ٦٨
Have you considered the water you drink
Download or share - 56:69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ ٦٩
Is it you who bring it down from the clouds, or is it We Who do so
Download or share - 56:70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًۭا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ ٧٠
If We willed, We could make it salty. Will you not then give thanks
Download or share - 56:72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ ٧٢
Is it you who produce its trees, or is it We Who do so
Download or share - 56:73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةًۭ وَمَتَـٰعًۭا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ ٧٣
We have made it ˹as˺ a reminder ˹of the Hellfire˺ and a provision for the travellers
Download or share - 56:74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٧٤
So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Greatest
Download or share - 56:75
۞ فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ ٧٥
So I do swear by the positions of the stars—
Download or share - 56:76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌۭ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ ٧٦
and this, if only you knew, is indeed a great oath—
Download or share - 56:79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ ٧٩
touched by none except the purified ˹angels˺

تَنزِيلٌۭ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ٨٠
˹It is˺ a revelation from the Lord of all worlds
Download or share - 56:81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ ٨١
How can you then take this message lightly
Download or share - 56:82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ ٨٢
and repay ˹Allah for˺ your provisions with denial
Download or share - 56:83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ ٨٣
Why then ˹are you helpless˺ when the soul ˹of a dying person˺ reaches ˹their˺ throat
Download or share - 56:85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ ٨٥
And We are nearer to such a person than you, but you cannot see
Download or share - 56:86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ ٨٦
Now, if you are not subject to Our Will ˹as you claim˺
Download or share - 56:87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ ٨٧
bring that soul back, if what you say is true
Download or share - 56:88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ ٨٨
So, if the deceased is one of those brought near ˹to Us˺

فَرَوْحٌۭ وَرَيْحَانٌۭ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍۢ ٨٩
then ˹such a person will have˺ serenity, fragrance, and a Garden of Bliss
Download or share - 56:90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ ٩٠
And if the deceased is one of the people of the right
Download or share - 56:91
فَسَلَـٰمٌۭ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ ٩١
then ˹they will be told,˺ “Greetings to you from the people of the right.”

وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ ٩٢
But if such person is one of the misguided deniers
Download or share - 56:93
فَنُزُلٌۭ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍۢ ٩٣
then their accommodation will be boiling water ˹to drink˺
Download or share - 56:96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ ٩٦
So glorify the Name of your Lord, the Greatest
