Ramadan 2027: dates, sehri and iftar

Ramadan 1448 is expected to begin on Monday 8 February 2027, with Eid al-Fitr on Tuesday 9 March. Here are the key dates, the last ten nights, and when sehri ends and iftar begins.

Key dates

These dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar, the calculated Hijri calendar of Saudi Arabia. An Islamic day begins at sunset, so every night listed here starts on the evening before the day it belongs to.

Why your country may start a day later

A calculated calendar knows in advance when the new moon is born. The month itself begins when the crescent is seen, and whether it can be seen depends on the sky where you are. Most countries announce Ramadan and Eid after a sighting committee meets on the evening of 29 Sha’ban or 29 Ramadan.

  • Sighting countries can start a day, occasionally two, after the calculated date.
  • The length of the month follows the same rule: Umm al-Qura gives Ramadan 1448 twenty-nine days, and a sighting can make it thirty.
  • In Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announces it. On the evening of 7 February 2027 the new moon is less than a day old, too young to be seen by eye, so the first fast there is most likely Tuesday 9 February, and Eid al-Fitr most likely Wednesday 10 March.
  • Follow your masjid or national committee for the final decision. The dates on this page are what to plan around, not the announcement.

Sehri and iftar for every day, by city

Each city's prayer-times page has the full Ramadan 2027 timetable: the time sehri ends and iftar begins on every date from 8 February to 10 March, so it holds whichever day your fast starts.

When sehri ends and iftar begins

Sehri ends when Fajr begins, at true dawn. Iftar is at Maghrib, which begins at sunset. Maghrib is the same in almost every calculation method; Fajr is not, because methods set dawn at different sun angles, so two timetables can disagree by several minutes at sehri. Many printed timetables also add an imsak time about ten minutes before Fajr as a margin.

Calculated times for the first and last day of Ramadan 2027, using each country's usual method:

That makes the first fast about 12½ hours long in these cities and the last about 13, as the days lengthen into March. Your masjid's Ramadan timetable may differ by a few minutes; when the two disagree, follow the masjid you pray with.

Each city's prayer times page shows the coming seven days, so in the week before Ramadan it shows the first days of fasting.

Preparing for the month

  • Learn the duas for fasting. The dua for breaking the fast and the other supplications of the month are in the fasting duas, in Arabic with transliteration, translation and source.
  • Plan your recitation. Thirty juz over twenty-nine or thirty days is a little over one juz a day. The Quran on this site has all 114 surahs with translation.
  • Settle your calculation method before the first sehri. The calculation guide explains why apps disagree at Fajr and how to match your masjid.

Frequently asked questions

When does Ramadan 2027 start?
By the Umm al-Qura calendar, the first fast of Ramadan 1448 is Monday 8 February 2027, and the first tarawih is prayed after Isha on Sunday 7 February. Each country confirms the start after the new moon is, or is not, sighted, so places that rely on local sighting can begin a day later. In Pakistan the first fast is most likely Tuesday 9 February, because on the evening of 7 February the new moon is under a day old; the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee decides.
When is Eid al-Fitr 2027?
Eid al-Fitr (1 Shawwal 1448) falls on Tuesday 9 March 2027 by the Umm al-Qura calendar, which gives Ramadan 1448 twenty-nine days. Where the month is ended by sighting, Eid can be a day later.
When is Laylat al-Qadr in 2027?
It is sought in the odd nights of the last ten. By the Umm al-Qura calendar those nights begin on the evenings of Saturday 27 February and Monday 1, Wednesday 3, Friday 5 and Sunday 7 March 2027. The 27th night, which many communities mark, begins on the evening of Friday 5 March.
What time does sehri end?
Sehri ends when Fajr begins, at true dawn. On the first day of Ramadan 2027, Fajr is calculated at 5:53 AM in Karachi and 5:12 AM in Riyadh. Many printed timetables also show an imsak time about ten minutes earlier as a margin of caution.
What time is iftar?
Iftar is at Maghrib, which begins at sunset. On the first day of Ramadan 2027 that is 6:21 PM in Karachi and 5:43 PM in Riyadh by calculation. Your masjid may announce the adhan a minute or two later.
How long are the fasts in Ramadan 2027?
In Karachi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Riyadh, a fast lasts about 12½ hours on the first day and about 13 hours on the last, because the days lengthen through February and March in the northern hemisphere.
